Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule my first appointment?
You can request an appointment through our Client Portal using the button at the top of this page, or call/text us at 435-600-1860. We'll follow up to find a time that works for you.
What happens at the first session?
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know you, understand what brings you in, and talk about your goals. There's no pressure to share everything at once. We'll also go over how therapy works, answer your questions, and decide together on next steps.
What should I do before my first appointment?
You'll receive intake forms through our Client Portal. Please complete them before your first session so we can make the most of our time together.
How long are sessions, and how often will I come?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. Most clients start with weekly sessions, then adjust frequency as they make progress.
Who do you work with?
We work with adolescents and adults in Iron County and the surrounding area. Our clinicians have experience with teens and families, adults facing a wide range of life challenges, and individuals with intellectual disabilities.
What kind of therapy do you offer?
We provide individual therapy, family therapy and couple therapy. Our approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps people build flexibility, clarify what matters to them, and move toward meaningful lives even when things are hard.
Do you prescribe medication or offer psychological testing?
No. Iron Ridge Counseling provides therapy only. If medication or testing would help, we're glad to coordinate with your doctor or refer you to a trusted provider.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes, we offer secure video sessions for clients located in Utah.
Can my teenager see a therapist here?
Yes. Working with adolescents is one of our specialties. Our adolescent-focused clinician Desiree Fryer, has more than 20 years of experience helping teens and their families.
Do parents need to be involved?
A parent or guardian must consent to treatment for clients under 18 and attend at least part of the first appointment. After that, we'll talk with you and your teen about how you can best support their progress.
Will you tell me what my teen talks about in therapy?
Teens do best when they feel safe to be honest, so we protect their privacy while keeping parents informed about overall progress. If there is ever a concern about safety, we will always involve parents. We'll explain exactly how this works at the first session.
Do you accept insurance?
We are currently in the process of becoming in-network with insurance providers. We can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We offer

Yes. What you share in therapy is kept confidential and protected by law. There are a few legal exceptions, such as when someone is at risk of serious harm or when abuse of a child or vulnerable adult is suspected. We'll review these with you at your first session.
